Job Title: Program DP / Cinematographer

Location: Lawndale, CA and Van Nuys, CA

Availability: June 24th – August 2nd
Duration: Approximately 4-8 days, with a maximum of 6 hours per day

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Program DP/Cinematographer to join our team for an exciting project involving middle and high school students. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of shot composition and creative angles, and be passionate about teaching and inspiring young filmmakers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shot Composition and Camera Settings: Quickly set up shots and adjust camera settings quickly and efficiently to capture student short films.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Program Teaching Artists to maximize coverage and ensure a cohesive visual style.
  • Lighting: Minimal/No Light Set up. Must know how to set up scenes indoor and outdoor using both artificial lights and natural light.
  • Youth Engagement: Work with middle and high school students to guide them in filming short films. Short films will be in the form of scripted, spoken word, songs, monologues, or short scenes.
  • Education: Teach and share with students basic camera handling and filmmaking skills, fostering a collaborative and creative atmosphere.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years as a cinematographer with a portfolio showcasing videos with wide audience appeal.
  • Technical Skills: Firm understanding of shot composition and creative angles.
  • Equipment: Own a professional-grade camera with lenses.
  • Client Interaction: Experience working directly with clients, teaching artists, and youth.
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation to travel to school sites in Lawndale, CA and Van Nuys, CA.
  • Availability: Available during Summer 2024.

Desired Skills:

  • Basic editing skills.
  • Comfortable working with youth and creating a collaborative atmosphere.
  • Bilingual: Spanish and English
