Job Title: Teaching Artist (3 Positions Available)
Job Type: Part-time, Contract-work basis
Location: Carson, CA and Van Nuys, CA; Los Angeles County
Training: July – August 2022, Three 4-hour sessions over 3 weeks
Program Start: LAUSD Fall Semester
Responsibilities:
Co-direct Middle School and High School students at two locations to create 6 short films (3 per each school site)
Teach 5 weekly classes, plus attend virtual bi-weekly staff meetings
Conduct theater games and improvisation to creatively engage students
Deliver education and community engagement programs
Collaborate effectively with team members
Available for the Culminating Screening Event (Dec 2023)
Qualifications:
Must have reliable transportation to travel to and from school sites and organizations in Carson, CA and Van Nuys, CA
Minimum 2 years of Teaching Artist experience
At least 5 years’ experience as a professional theater artist: playwright, actor, and/or director
Has taught in a school setting and is sensitive to school cultures
Passionate about empowering learners of all ages as playgoers, creators, and critical thinkers
Has strong oral and written communication skills; can guide in-depth discussions; is open to feedback
Bilingual (Spanish/English) desired
Scriptwriting/creative writing experience in short film format desired
Filmmaking skills desired
Social justice knowledge and background desired
Well-organized and has great creative instincts
Passionate about social justice, prison reform, and education reform
Benefits:
